Srinagar, Oct 23: The Jammu and Kashmir government has entered into an agreement with the Power Trading Corporation of India (PTCI) to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the ensuing winter season. Under the agreement, signed by the state's power minister Mohammad Sharief Niaz with the representatives of PTCI here yesterday, the corporation would provide 200 MW power to the state, of which 100 mw will be supplied round-the-clock while the remaining 100 MW will be supplied during peak hours, an official spokesman said here today.

Signing of the agreement will facilitate uninterrupted power supply to the state particularly in winter season when the power generation decreases in the state due to low discharge of water in the rivers, the spokesman said. He said the highlights of the agreement include different rates for different periods of the day and assured power supply during winter season at reasonable rates.

As per the agreement, the cost per unit during lean hours will be Rs 2.5 per unit and Rs 2.65 per unit during peak hours he said, adding till last year the state used to purchase the additional power from Punjab which on many occasions could not fulfill the requirements. He said the representative of PTCI evinced interest in purchase of surplus power that the state generates during summer besides purchase of surplus power to be generated by the under-construction Baglihar power project.
