on Thursday threatened to stop three NDA partners and Congress from
functioning in the state as over 1000 agitators protesting
against the ceasefire extension were dispersed before
they could take out a procession defying prohibitory orders at
Jiribam in Imphal East district.
The MSF president, Pheiroija Nando Luwang, in a statement
asked the BJP, Samata party, Manipur state Congress party, all
NDA partners, and the Opposition Congress, to reply by June 30
whether they will be able to revoke the Naga ceasefire
extension to Manipur.
The MSF alleged that party MLAs, who are now in New Delhi, had failed to reach a joint decision in the interest of the people in Manipur and were 'inactive'. The MSF also asked non-government officials in the committee for restoration of normalcy in Imphal West and East districts to resign as it was against the interest of the people.
Meanwhile, the senior Samata party leader, George Fernandes, on Thursday said in Gangtok that the violent agitation against the ceasefire extension in the north east was not unexepected. The Samata leader maintained that violence in Manipur, was spontaneous and not inspired (by someone).
The Army, Assam Rifles and CRPF are patrolling in the state during the night and the police is keeping vigil during the day, official sources said. Curfew was relaxed for nine hours in Imphal and Greater Imphal areas for nine hours from 5 am and for four hours in Thoubal in view of intensified agitation there Wednesday, when the relaxation period was extended to 13 hours, the sources said.
