The Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba on Wednesday, said that it assaulted an army convoy in South Kashmir earlier in the day, killing a major and a Jawan and wounding ten security personnel. Two civilians, including a woman, also died in the crossfire. Elsewhere in the valley, three militants were killed and as many persons injured overnight. A Lashkar spokesman said that militants Abu Osama and Abu Badr took part in the attack on the Jammu-bound convoy at 9:30 in the morning in Mirbazar Khanabal of Anantnag district. Official sources told reporters that there were three Indo-Tibetan border police personnel among the injured. The entire area has been cordoned off following the attack.
Three militants, believed to be foreigners, were killed in an encounter in Machil sector on Tuesday evening and three AK rifles, eight magazines, 574 rounds, seven rocket boosters, 36 grenades, 120 detonators and a wireless set recovered.
The bullet-riddled body of Mohammad Yousuf Bimla was recovered from Kokernag while Riyaz Ahmad Peer and ex-militant Abdul Hamid Malik were shot at and wounded in Baramulla district on Tuesday evening.
