Bangalore, Nov 26: Gulf Air will begin direct flights from Persian Gulf to Kolkata from today, an airline official said Monday.
"We will have twice a week service from the gulf to Kolkata beginning Wednesday," Gulf Air general manager India John Anderson told reporters here.
The airline would fly from Bahrain via Muscat to Kolkata, similar to the twice a week service it started last month to Bangalore.
"We are flying about 60 to 70 passengers every flight. It helps the passengers to get to know our services ahead of the peak travelling season from next month," Anderson said.
The airline, he said, decided to fly as they found about 200 to 300 passengers originating from Bangalore flying Gulf Air from Mumbai to West Asia.

With the recent addition of Bangalore, Anderson said Gulf Air flies to six destinations in the country including Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Chennai and Trivandrum.
