Hyderabad, May 28: The national task force on interlinking of rivers has asked Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) to map out the country's rivers in order to interlink them, task force chairman Suresh Prabhu said here today.
Inaugurating a convention on "Interlinking of Rivers-Challenges and Advantages", organised by the BJYM, Prabhu said this gigantic task should be implemented irrespective of the cost and time.
"The future of the country is linked with the interlinking of the rivers", he said.
Elaborating, Prabhu said, "For the prosperity of the nation we have to sacrifice to gain something. The interconnectivity of rivers would lead to creating employment, power generation, economic growth and elimination of poverty. " "In the process of achieving all this, there may be some displacements and migrations which has to be taken care of with a human face," he added.
Complimenting Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his vision of making India a super power, Prabhu said the country's future needs have to be kept in mind while implementing such projects.
The task force, with experts from various fields, including environment specialists, engineers etc, has been studying the project scientifically. It would not deprive any state of its water rights but provide water to the chronic drought-affected areas in the country, he said. Bureau Report
