New Delhi, Oct 05: NSG commando Surjan Singh Bhandari, who suffered bullet injuries while flushing out two terrorists from Akshardham Temple in Gujarat on September 24 last year, has been admitted to the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today visited Bhandari, who has been admitted in a special ward at the new emergency ward of the hospital. Vajpayee spoke to the family members of the NSG commando, who is in coma.

Earlier terming reports about AIIMS refusing to admit the commando as "unfounded", Health and Family Welfare Minister Sushma Swaraj said that the commando has been given a special room with all facilities in the hospital. She said when the NSG Director General came with the request, he was told that a special room would be provided in 15 days and he was satisfied.

The minister hoped that the commando would come out of the coma.

A special room has been arranged for the commando at AIIMS, which is equipped with ultra-modern facilities and he is under constant observation by doctors from the Neurology and Emergency Departments, hospital sources said. He is on life support system and further investigations into his condition are on, the sources said.
