New Delhi, Oct 16: The Delhi High Court today issued notice to Punjab Police on an anticipatory bail plea of pop singer Daler Mehndi against whom a Punjab court has issued
non-bailable warrants in connection with a case of illegal trafficking of people.
However, while issuing the notice, Justice S K Aggarwal, refused to grant any relief to the singer without hearing the Punjab Police and the Delhi Police. The Delhi Police has already been served with a copy of his anticipatory bail plea.
The court has fixed Monday for further hearing in the case. Former Solicitor General Harish Salve, who appeared for Mehndi, requested the court to grant him protection from arrest at least till tomorrow as the singer was to receive some award.
Observing it cannot grant any relief to Mehndi without hearing the Punjab Police and the Delhi Police, the court pointed out that the case has been registered in Punjab and not in Delhi. Salve said that no summons has been served on Mehndi who came to know about the non-bailable warrants only from the media. He also complained that media was "conducting a trial" on Mehndi.
