New Delhi, May 09: Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie today asserted the sale of government equity in oil majors HPCL and BPCL was on track despite stiff opposition to it in Parliament.
Asked whether the opposition in Parliament to the disinvestment of the two companies had put the process on the backburner, he said, "No, it is proceeding ahead. It is not on the backburner.... In the case of Parliament, in fact, I find great progress." Shourie said on a television news channel, “In India things proceeds only till the next road block... However, things are certainly proceeding." To a question whether economic reforms were slowing down with elections round the corner in many states, he said, "Yes there is no doubt the political process is such that things do get slowed down, they have got slowed down in the last year. And one of the small things that we can do in the country is that all elections should be scheduled simultaneously, at least for the Centre and the states. But there are constitutional problems."
