Centre sanctions 18 projects under SGSY in N-E
Shillong, Sept 28: The Centre has sanctioned 18 special projects under the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) in the North Eastern region.
Shillong, Sept 28: The Centre has sanctioned 18 special projects under the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) in the North Eastern region.
Out of it, seven are for Assam, four in Mizoram, two each
in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura and one in Nagaland,
according to an official release here today.
The total share of the project cost for the Union Rural Development Ministry was Rs 62.11 crore out of which Rs 27.28 crore was released so far.
The objective of SGSY was to bring the beneficiaries above the poverty line by providing them income generating assets through a mix of bank credit and government subsidy.
Its focus was on establishing a large number of micro-enterprises in rural areas based on the ability of the poor and potential of each area, both land-based and otherwise, for a sustainable income generation.
Under the SGSY, two types of training - basic orientation programme and skill development training - were required to be given to the beneficiaries before taking up of income generating activities, the release added.
Another release said the Union Agricutlure Ministry sanctioned the 'Dacnet' project for strengthening information technology infrastructure in all directorates, regional directorates and their field units to the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
The project, cost of which was estimated at Rs 18.39 crore, was a sponsored by the Department of Agriculture.
