New Delhi, Oct 15: Taking strong exception to the arrest of VHP activists by Uttar Pradesh government across the state ahead of the outfit's October 17 Ayodhya programme, the BJP today said the action was "unwarranted and wrong" and would not help in maintaining peace. "The action by the Uttar Pradesh government is unwarranted and wrong. To arrest Sadhus and saints from the Ghats and temples in Ayodhya is wrong. Any repressive and provocative action on the part of the state will not be in the interest of peace and harmony," party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here. Reacting to the arrest of VHP leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore, he said, "This is wrong and unnecessary and the state government should take steps only to ensure there is no tension." He claimed that trains were running according to schedule and the Centre has not diverted any trains in view of the VHP programme on Friday.

Asserting BJP wanted a peaceful solution to the issue, he said both the VHP and the state government were responsible for maintaning peace. Bureau Report
