Bangalore, June 18: Dismissing a charge that the largest number of anti-Christian violent incidents had taken place in Karnataka, State Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge today said government would not tolerate any organisation promoting ill-will between people of different faiths.
Expressing surprise over a claim of All India Christian Council on attacks on Christians, Kharge told reporters here that it was "wrong information", maintaining that the state's
record in maintaining communal harmony was unimpeachable.
He said Karnataka was known as a peaceful state and government's concern for minorities was well reflected in the prompt actions it had taken in incidents concerning them.
Promotion of hatred on the basis of religion had not been allowed in the past nor would it be allowed in the future, he said. Kharge also said that the government would not brook any attempt to cause communal hatred in the state.
All India Christian Council Secretary General John Dayal had alleged last week that the largest number of anti-Christian violence had taken place in Karnataka with 50 such cases reported in the last nine months.
