Pune, Dec 29: Former Joint Commissioner of Police, Sridhar Vagal, arrested in connection with the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, today urged a local court for permission to undergo treatment in a private hospital as he apprehended that he may get a `stroke' in the jail and die. The application was moved by his counsel in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) M N Bondre.
The special public prosecutor contended since Vagal was not in custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), it was upto the jail authorities to look into the matter. The court took on record the application moved by Vagal. Vagal was arrested on November seven in Mumbai by the sit for his alleged complicity in the scam and his suspected links with the prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi.

The former joint commissioner, who holds the rank of inspector general of police, is accused of having links with Telgi from whom he allegedly received Rs 72 lakh through suspended assistant commissioner of police Dilip Kamath from Mumbai Crime Branch.
In the earlier hearing, the court had turned down his applications, including the demand for class one facilities in the jail and return of weapons seized from him.
