Haringhata (WB), July 14: At least 90 people, of whom around 50 are women and children, have been taken ill due to a suspected case of food poisoning in Nadia district of West Bengal. The condition of four of them, including two children, was critical and they had been referred to a hospital in Kalyani, Haringhata block medical officer Bobby Majumder said.

The other patients were admitted to the Haringhata Rural Health Centre in Nadia district and their condition was stable, he said.

Majumdar said that Narayan Shil, a lorry driver, had invited 150 people for a puja at his house on Subarnapur village on Saturday night. A day later, people who had taken Prasad at the puja complained of vomiting, loose motions and high fever and started flocking to the Haringhata Rural Health Centre.

As many as 90 people, including Shil, had been hospitalised, Majumdar said.
