New Delhi, Sept 07: All those men toiling in gyms, craving for a rugged, masculine appearance, should ponder over the findings by British scientists suggesting that macho looks are no guarantee to attract the opposite sex. Men with rugged looks, courtesy high testosterone levels, though widely perceived as virile and assertive, may not necessarily find favour with women who are likely to prefer delicate and feminine looks, a study published in the proceedings of the Royal Society, UK, said.
The research carried out by a team of scientists, led by Nick Neave of Northumbria University, sought to establish whether different pre-natal testosterone levels and the different faces moulded by them had any effect on the perception of man's personality and physical attractiveness.
The shape of a male face is significantly moulded by exposure to hormones especially testosterone which affects the expression of features like jaw, chin, nose and cheekbones as to how pronounced or understated these are going to be. If testosterone levels are high in the womb, it will result in more pronounced jaw, chin, cheekbones etc, leading to an angular and craggy face. So, for all those men out there, the message is loud and clear. It pays to be a gentleman. Bureau Report
