Jammu, June 17: Heavily armed militants today attacked a police post and injured a cop in Mahore forests of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here.
Jammu, June 17: Heavily armed militants today attacked a police post and injured a cop in Mahore forests of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here.
A group of heavily armed militants, who took positions on high altitude places early hours of this morning fired heavily on police post Thilloo (Mahore) and fired rifle grenades, the sources said.
The grenades missed intended target and exploded away from police post, where guards retaliated back and exchanges continued for five hours till 0900 hours, the sources said.
However, the militants escaped, the sources said, adding one jawan who suffered minor injuries was hospitalised.
In another incident, a village defence committee member mistakenly fired on one civilian, Ram Nath from close range with a 303 rifle issued to him at Doda late last night, the sources said.
Ram died on the spot and VDC member, Ved Raj was arrested, the sources said.
