He also inquired whether schools were functioning and also about the demolition of dilapidated buildings. Taking exception to naming the Chapredi village in Bhuj as 'Atal Nagar', Vajpayee asked the village sarpanch how it was named after him. Pat came the reply "it was the people's desire".
