Patna, May 26: The teachers of Patna University are on indefinite strike work from today in protest against the killing of Prof S Lal forcing the university to postpone till further orders the part-I and final examinations of bachelor of architecture scheduled to commence from May 26. University examination controller, Karyanand Paswan said that the examinations had been postponed by the orders of the vice-chancellor, K K Jha.

Patna University Teachers' Association (PUTA) president Jagannath Thakur said that the teachers had decided to paralyse all administrative and examination work to protest the killing of Lal by criminals yesterday.

Lal was the Head of Department of Chemistry of the prestigious science college.
Thakur said that the teaching community was forced to take such a harsh decision because the law and order situation had deteriorated to such an extent that nobody felt safe in the city.

He said that the teachers would sit on a day-long dharna at the main entrance of the university demanding adequate security for the teaching community, a high level inquiry into the killing of Lal and immediate arrest of all those involved in the crime.
Five persons including a known criminal Dharmenda were arrested from Sultanganj police station area of Patna in connection with the professor's killing.
