Madurai, July 18: The vigilance and anti-corruption police today filed a chargesheet against former DMK minister Samayanallur Sevlaraj, his wife and two daughters, in connection with the 'disproportionate wealth case', at the chief judicial magistrate's court here. The department, in its chargesheet running into 80 pages, alleged that Selvaraj had purchased property worth Rs 30 lakh and had registered the same in the names of his wife and daughters. This was disproportionate to his known sources of income and also what he had declared, they contended. Selvaraj told reporters that the charges were 'imaginary' and a 'total bunch of lies.' It was 'politically motivated' with a view to bring disrepute to him and his family members. The house mentioned in the chargesheet was purchased by him 25 years back from the housing board, he said.
Stating that he would face the charges in court, Selvaraj said that his wife, who had undergone a kidney operation, had requested the chief judicial magistrate to exempt her, as also her daughters, studying in Chennai, from personally appearing in court. The case has been posted for hearing on August 1, 2003. Bureau Report
