matches. Dementieva, who received a first round bye, now owns

Russia's Nadia Petrova beat the eighth-seeded Chanda Rubin of the United States, 4-6 6-4 6-0. In all American match ups, Jill Craybas surprised No. 1 seed Amy Frazier, 6-2 6-2 the 10th seeded Meghann Shaughnessy toppled Sandra Cacic, 2-6 6-0 7-5 and No. 12 seed Lisa Raymond cruised by Jennifer Hopkins, 6-4 6-1.
