Brest (France), Aug 13: Three people were killed when a light aircraft crashed off France's western coast, prosecutors said today, after rescuers found the wreck of the plane and the bodies of two people reported missing.
The wreckage was located overnight at a depth of 76 meters between the mainland of the island of Ouessant, with the bodies of a man and a woman inside. The body of another woman had been recovered earlier.
The victims, who lived in the Paris area, were not identified.
Prosecutors in the western city of Brest said divers would work throughout the day to determine how to retrieve the bodies.
Radio contact was lost with the French-registered plane after it left the Brittany coast towards the island of Ouessant yesterday, prompting authorities to launch a wide search-and-rescue operation.
