Kochi, May 10: The teachings and philosophies of saints from various parts of the country would form part of the new curricula framework now adopted by NCERT and CBSE, Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi said today. "We are determined to make the 21st century India's century, where India will lead with her spiritual power, for which the wisdom and teachings of great social emancipators should be recalled," Joshi said, inaugurating the three-day Sree Narayana World Convention and global meet here.
Describing Adi Sankara and Sree Narayana Guru as the two "illustrious sons" of Kerala, he said their teachings and those of others who worked for an egalitarian society should be known to everybody. "Their teachings should form an essential part of the curriculum."
During the last 50 years, this aspect had been "neglected" in our education system, he added.
The problems of economic subjugation, issue of conversion and violence in the name of religion, which confronted Narayana Guru who spread the message of "one caste, one religion and one god for man", were present even today.
With his unique sense of love and empathy, the Guru had stressed on the creation of wealth, eradication of social inequalities, education and equal opportunities, he said, adding these principles were more relevant now than ever before. Bureau Report
