Chandigarh, Sept 07: The Punjab unit of BJP today alleged ruling Congress in the state had misused government machinery to ensure unopposed election of seven of its candidates for municipal elections in Raiya in Amritsar district. "Rejection of the nominations of seven candidates of Akali-BJP combine and making the rest of the independent candidates in those seven wards to withdraw their nomination papers per force justifies our claim that chief minister Amarinder Singh is bent upon ensuring win of his candidates using every method," state BJP president Brij Lal Rinwa told reporters here. Akali-BJP combine anticipates "booth capturing in rest of the wards", Rinwa said.
The polling is scheduled for tomorrow in the rest six ward out of 13 in Raiya.
"The local MLA Jasbir Singh Dimpa is openly using not only money and muscle power, but also the government machinery to ensure victory of Congress candidates," Rinwa said adding Congress knows fully well that it does not otherwise stand a chance in the traditional Akali stronghold.
