Kannur, Dec 06: Fifty people belonging to the National Democratic Front were taken into custody here in connection with last night's attack on a police vehicle in which two police personnel, including a circle inspector, were injured, police said today. The NDF sympathisers attacked the police jeep which was on patrol, objecting to their efforts in removing some posters in certain pockets of the city in connection with the 10th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition being observed today.
While the driver of the jeep was hospitalised, the circle inspector was discharged after treatment.
According to police, the NDF activists openly challenged the police personnel and dragged the CI and driver out. However, both managed to escape.

Meanwhile, police have strengthened security measures by setting up more police pickets and intensifying patrolling across the district in view of the tenth anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.
Orders have been issued against taking out any procession and demonstration. Police have warned of stern action against those who resort to forced closure of shops while full protection have been assured to those who want to keep open their shops and operate vehicles.
No untoward incidents have been reported from the district so far, according to police. Bureau Report
