Lucknow, June 02: Describing opposition unity in Uttar Pradesh an "eyewash," BJP today claimed that Congress "will never" support a government headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav in the state. "Congress never looked serious in supporting Yadav. When its support could have toppled the government then Congress refused to support opposition parties and today when the Congress knows that the opposition does not have the numbers it has voiced its support for opposition unity," BJP UP state chief Vinay Katiyar said here.
Addressing a press conference, he said Congress president Sonia Gandhi was conversant with ground reality and therefore said recently that the party would support an alternate government if it was formed in UP.
"The fact remains that Mayawati-led government would complete its full term," Katiyar said adding there was no threat to the BJP-BSP coalition government.
When asked about the BJP stand on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue, the former Bajrang Dal president who is also MP from Faizabad, said that on-going excavation in Ayodhya had thrown up enough evidence suggesting presence of a Hindu temple at the site on which a mosque was built in the 16th century.
Muslims should now themselves handover the disputed land to Hindu and allow construction of a Ram temple there, he said. Bureau Report
