At least four people were killed and 20 seriously injured in fresh clashes between the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress in Midnapore district after a lull of over three weeks, police sources said on Tuesday.

An eight-year old boy, two TMC activists and one CPI(M) supporter were killed in clashes in the last two days in Potashpur and Keshpur police station areas where the situation continued to be tense, the sources said in Midnapore.

At least 500 houses were also looted in the fighting
which spread to 17 villages including Balyagobindapur,
Madanmohanpur and Lalma.
“Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) contingents have been
deployed in the area,” they added.
Clashes between supporters of the two parties had stopped following a visit by Defence Minister George Fernandes and other high level delegations of the NDA and left parties in early September Bureau Report
