India and Turkey on Friday discussed measures to step up bilateral cooperation in Railways, Surface Transport and diversified areas.
This figured during a meeting of a Turkish delegation, led by Deputy Under Secretary Mithat Balkan with the Indian side led by K V Rajan, Secretary (East) in the External Affairs ministry.
The two sides discussed modalities for setting up a joint working group on infrastructure under the aegis of the Indo-Turkish Joint Economic Commission.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts by both countries to intensify their trade and economic cooperation. Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit had visited India in March this year.
The Turkish side saw promising opportunities of cooperation with their Indian counterparts in both India and Turkey, and in third countries, especially Central Asia.
It was decided that a representative office would be opened in India by them to ensure close and sustained collaboration with the Indian industry.
