Narrow escape for 122 passengers in Mangalore
All the 122 passengers and crew of a Jet Airways Boeing 737-400 flight on Mumbai-Mangalore sector had a narrow escape when the aircraft made a heavylanding and blocked the runway at the airport in Mangalore forcing cancellation of an Alliance Air flight.

Mangalore Airport`s acting director Viswanathan told PTI
that after the aircraft made a heavy landing. Its
undercarriage was damaged. The airport was closed as the
aircraft was bogged at the end of the air strip.
Meanwhile, a Mumbai report said the aircraft`s nose wheel tyres got deflated on landing leading to the closure of the airport. The flight was commanded by Capt Ken Rodrigues.
Airport sources in Mumbai said the director general of civil aviation had ordered removal of the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder to conduct an inquiry into the cause of the incident. Spares and manpower had been flown to Kozhikode to proceed to Mangalore for carrying out the necessary repairs and inspection before bringing back the aircraft to Mumbai, the Mumbai report said.
