Wildlife activist Mrinal Chatterjee will receive the prestigious ''Esso honour for tiger conservation'' award for this year. Mr Chatterjee would be felicitated for his outstanding work in saving tigers in Sunderban Tiger reserve contribution towards park management and creating awareness among the local communities.
In a letter to Mr Chatterjee, Esso Petroleum India Vice-President Peter C Smith said, ''We recognise your individual achievement in strengthening this unique world heritage and pleased to honour you with this award.''
Mr Chatterjee, associated with institute of climbers and nature lovers, is engaged in tiger preservation in Sunderban for the past one decade.
The award containing a trophy, a citation and a purse of Rs 50,000 would be presented at a ceremony to be held in Mumbai on February 3 next.
The award is instituted by Esso Petroleum India Private Limited.
