Two Indian naval warships -- Destroyer INS Delhi and Corvette INS Kora – have reached the Japanese port of Sasebo for the first-ever joint Indo-Japanese joint exercises from September 25. The two indigenously developed warships docked at the Japanese port to a warm welcome as it marked a first occasion for Indian naval ships to call at Japanese naval port. During its four day stay off the Japanese coast, the Indian warships and naval officers would have intensive interaction at various levels with the Japanese self-defence force culminating in the holding of first ever bilateral naval exercises, according to a defence ministry release in New Delhi. The port call and holding of first ever joint naval exercises is the outcome of an understanding reached between the two countries after the visit of the defence minister George Fernandes to Tokyo last year.
