Pak stepping up terror campaign
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday charged Pakistan with stepping up its terror campaign in direct proportion to the mounting desire for peace among people in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We have seen no dilution in Pakistan's attempts to intensify its proxy war against India,” he told the 35th conference of directors and inspectors general of police organised by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in New Delhi.
Vajpayee, who spoke while being seated apparently because of his knee problem, said, “Everybody knows the manner in which Pakistan-backed terrorist organisations sabotaged the Peace talks in Jammu and Kashmir.”
India has made it clear it could resume talks only after Pakistan stopped cross-border terrorism and violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Prime Minister said that terrorist violence in J&K and other parts of India, engineered by protagonists of terror from across the border, was an example of the challenges the country faced.
