Over ten lakh bank employees will go on a day's token strike on November 15 in a nation-wide protest against the government move to privatise public sector banks, national confederation of bank employees said.
The confederation said in a release that the strike call had been given by the United Forum Of Bank Unions which comprises nine organisations representing more than one million employees and officers in public sector banks. It said the forum would oppose tooth and nail the government move to bring down government equity in public sector banks from 51 per cent to 33 per cent and introduction of VRS which would render millions of bank employees jobless. The bank representatives would meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and finance minister Yashwant Sinha on November 28 and if there was no positive response from the government, the employees would go on an indefinite strike, the confederation said.
