Lennox Lewis peppered David Tua with jabs all night, stopping to throw occasional combinations, to retain his heavyweight titles in a unanimous decision after 12 rounds on Saturday. Judges Chuck Giampa had it 118-110, Dave Moretti 119-109 and Jerry Roth 117-111 for the British fighter. Lewis retained his International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council heavyweight titles.
Lewis, with a 7-inch (17.8 cm) advantage in height and a 15-inch (38 cm) reach advantage, was simply too tall and too effective a boxer for the Samoa-born Tua.
There were no knockdowns in the bout.
The crowd of 12,000 at the Mandalay Bay arena booed the lack of action at some points, as Lewis was content to stay out of range of Tua's vaunted left hook.
Tua stalked the Briton, but could not get inside often and was left lunging at Lewis with his left hook.
