Seven people were killed and 82 others injured, ten of them seriously, when a bus carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh rolled down into a 60-foot deep gorge near Barwain in Una district on Tuesday evening.

Fifty-two of the injured were admitted to the district hospital at Una and 25 rushed to the health centre at Chintpurni. Five of the seriously injured were taken to the PGI at Chandigarh.

District Police Chief Rithwik Rudra said that the bus, with about 90 pilgrims on board, were on a pilgrimage tour from Bulandshahr.

Preliminary reports said, “The bus was overcrowded and met with accident due to failure of brakes.”
Immediately after the mishap, police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Efforts are on to retrieve the bus.
