CPI general secretary A B Bardhan on Thursday said that various Kisan organisations would hold a rally in New Delhi today to protest the anti-farmer Policies of the Centre and would be joined by the left parties. The rally would highlight the failure of the Centre and would take shape of a “serious movement, more militant in nature, to voice concern over farmers plight", he said. Criticising the Centre for doing away with the quantitative restrictions of foreign goods and reduction of import duties on agri-goods, Bardhan said the domestic farmers would be badly hit by this move.
“Lack of minimum support price and proper purchasing mechanism was leading to distress sales, indebtedness and suicides by helpless farmers,” he alleged. Criticising Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandra Babu Naidu for pursuing World Bank policies, he said that his party would organise village level mass contact programmes to create awareness on the anti-people policies of TDP.
