A massive drive has been launched against banned ultra left outfits in Jharkhand, which have stepped up their activities in the newly created state, Director General of Police T P Sinha has said. Since the problem of extremism is about ten-year old in the state and has its roots in the socio-economic disparities, the ongoing drive against the ultras has been given the form of a package, the DGP told a press conference in Ranchi. The package includes speedy implementation of land reforms in the state, bringing extremists under the legal dragnet and creation of an atmosphere in the state which prompts them to give up arms and join the mainstream, he said. Sinha said last Sunday's encounter in Garhwa district in which ten activists of the banned People's War Group (PWG)were killed, was part of this drive launched across the state on January three this year.
