Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandak Committee (SGPC) president Jagir Kaur, along with her gunman Nishan Singh, has gone underground after the CBI filed an FIR against her in a case relating to the death of her daughter, Harpreet. CBI officials have conducted raids at various places in search of the two accused.
Sources in the CBI have confirmed that a case under Sections 304, 120 and 201 IPC has been registered against Jagir Kaur and six others, five of whom were arrested by the CBI on Wednesday.
They said that since Jagir Kaur has been charged for a non-bailable offence, she would have to surrender to the CBI. Since Jagir Kaur's name was on top of the list of the accused, the CBI had requested the court not to make the FIR public as it might jeopardise its investigations.
The incident has led to a political upheaval in Punjab and put a question mark on Bibi’s political future.
