The university of Calicut is in the thick of a controversy following a circular issued by the registrar-in-charge imposing a 'ban' on the 'Malaya Manorama' daily in the campus for publishing unfavorable reports. Politicians, cultural and social activists have lambasted the Vice Chancellor, Dr. K. K. N. Kurup, and the university authorities for the unprecedented order, describing the move a undemocratic, fascist and uncultured. The circular, issued on October 5, directs the offices and libraries of the university not to subscribe the daily.
