When President Bill Clinton met Shakuntala Bai during his visit to Nayala while in India, he told her,"If you contest an election, I'm sure you will win wherever you stand from." The doughty, 40-year old village woman from Rajasthan was recently elected secretary of the Kisan Sewa Samiti that represents 400 villages in the Chaksu and Fagi tehsils. On Wednesday morning she left for Mumbai on way to New York to attend a two-day meet, organised by the Hunger Project, where she would speak on Panchayti Raj and the role of women. She carried with her two gifts- bangles for Hillary Clinton and a pen, made specially from lacquer, for the US President- that she would present to the US first couple when she first met them later in Washington.
