Indefinite curfew continued on Monday in Dariapur area in Ahmedabad, which witnessed group clashes and police firing due to civic polls leading to the death of seven people on Sunday. The situation was, however, peaceful on Monday as no untoward incident was reported from the affected area, police said adding strict vigil was being maintained. Trouble started at a polling booth on Jordan road in Dariapur after two groups, allegedly supporters of Shiv Sena and BJP, clashed on the issue of casting bogus vote.
Police said 22 people were injured in stone throwing, stabbing and assault by the mob who attacked policemen injuring nine of them.
Police burst teargas shells and fired 89 rounds to disperse the violent groups, in which six persons, including city unit Seva Dal Chief Vayram Ravat, were killed and nine hurt.
Indefinite curfew was imposed on Sunday and polling suspended in 43 of the total 49 booths of the ward. Polling was also suspended in nine booths in Nawaj Wada ward in Kalupur area following the violence.
