Farmers collecting dividends of their toil, major bridges and important roads being reconstructed and upgraded are signs that the scars of militancy are being wiped out in this south Kashmir district. A group of reporters saw hectic paddy harvesting going on with the gutted infrastructure being rebuilt and communication network strengthened in this once-militant infested district.

District Development Commissioner G A Peer said that the ten major bridges had been reconstructed and four important roads were upgraded at a cost of Rs 30.66 crore. An additional 79 doctors are coping with the deficiency in medical institutions.

Peer said, “The delay in the finalisation of the state plan by the Centre is not being allowed to come in the way of reconstruction of roads and building that suffered great damages during militancy. He said that at least 10 major gutted bridges have been reconstructed at a cost of Rs 14.05 crore and the severed road links restored.

On Sunday, Public Works Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, inaugurated another important newly constructed Sakhar Sum bridge at Redwani near Khudwani. The reconstructed bridges include Khudwani bridge connecting Anantnag and Kulgam, Padshahi Bagh bridge connecting Bijbihara and Pahalgam, Kanganhal bridge between Acchabal and Radipora and Langnai bridge on Pahalgam road.
