While the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) leadership is still to accept rampant absenteeism, a recent study has indicted the teaching community for bunking classes. The recent publication of "HRD In Universities: Study of Delhi University" by a former DUTA vice-president has some startling revelations to make. " Most of the Delhi University teachers are engaged in extra curricular activities such as tuitions, running coaching centres, shops and business, consultancy and stock-market dealings," observes Dr J P Sharma in his book. "Teachers take little care of the colleges from where they draw their salaries," he adds. "Due to this, the entire teaching community is earning a bad name in the society,"the book further says, adding that there is a need to check growing absenteeism among teachers of DU.
