At least 11 people were killed and over 30 injured, some of them seriously, when sectarian clashes broke out in neighbouring Mubarakpur town of Azamgarh district late last night, official sources said in Varanasi today. Indefinite curfew was imposed in the town, the world famous centre for benarasi sarees. Unofficial sources, however, put the toll at 13. The warring groups, Shias and Sunnis, used firearms and crude bombs freely in several localities creating terror and tension in the area. Paramilitary forces and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in the town to maintain law and order.
