Two Congress members were on Thursday suspended for a day in the Gujarat Assembly for displaying a banner in the house demanding release of water from Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam for villages in Baroda district. When the house was discussing the call attention motion raised by Naresh Rawal (Cong), expressing concern over the problems of drinking water and fodder due to delayed rainfall this year, Dhirubhai Bhil and Kunwarji Bavadia got up and displayed the banner.
They were joined by other Congress members, who tried to grill the government over the problems of drinking water and fodder supply. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Mehta moved the motion to suspend both the Congress members for displaying the banner in the house.
Speaker Dhirbhai Shah suspended the two from the house for the day after adopting the motion by voice vote.
