The Kisan Unions and Left party activists in Punjab on Friday blocked a railway track at Mansa railway station in protest against 'tardy' procurement of paddy in the state which severely hit train services on the main Delhi-Ferozepur track Friday morning, official reports reaching Chandigarh said. The local railway authorities had to send back a passenger train to Bathinda, which was heading towards Jind in Haryana following a one-thousand strong mob agitators occupying tracks at the Mansa railway station.
Reports also said that another Ferozepur-bound passenger train from Delhi, had been cancelled for the time being due to railway line blockade. The agitators were led by Punjab CPI MLA, Hardev Singh Arshi and Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rulda Singh. The agitators raised anti-government slogans, demanding fast procurement of heaps of paddy lying in mandis across the state.
