It is situated in North Goa district and comes under North Goa Lok Sabha constituency. It is the only reserved constituency of Goa Assembly. It is reserved for scheduled castes.


According to the Election Commission of India, Pernem has 29,515 registered voters. It comprises 15,040 male and 14,475 female registered voters. 


Sitting BJP MLA Rajendra Arlekar is pitted against Vikesh Ramesh Assotikar (INC), Manohar Trimbak Ajgaonkar  (MGP), Santosh Shankar Mandrekar (NCP) and Shivanand Krishna Pilarnkar (AAP).

Pernem election result 2017 will be declared along with other 4 states on March 11. 


In the 2012 Assembly elections, the BJP won this seat by a margin of 8,353 votes. BJP candidate Rajendra Arlekar got 16,406 votes and defeated his nearest contender Manohar Trimbak Ajgaoankar of Congress who got 8,053 votes.

Both Rajendra Arlekar and Manohar Trimbak Ajgaoankar have very good voter base in Pernem. 


In Pernem election results 2007, Sopte Dayanand Raghunath of BJP was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly. Sopte got 7272, whereas Deshprabhu Jitendra Raghura managed to secure 4827 votes.
