In the dry state of Gujarat, the sight of booze lying unattended on the road can mean the world to many.
VADODARA: In the dry state of Gujarat, the sight of booze lying unattended on the road can mean the world to many.
This is exactly what happened in Dumad village in Vadodara district on Sunday.
After a car, carrying liquor illegally, met with an accident, local villagers swarmed to the incident zone to flick as beer cans as possible.
Visuals of white Celerio lying unattended and men picking up red beer cans, strewn across the road, emerged on social media.
The incident took place on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway.
The sale and consumption of alcohol is prohibited in Gujarat, the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Those visiting Gujarat can buy a certain quantity of alcohol from few licensed stores in the state, after securing liquor permits.
Anyone found manufacturing, selling, purchasing or transporting alcohol could be jailed for up to 10 years and/or be made to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh, say current state laws.
