New Delhi: Health minister K K Shylaja has assured that all the government hospitals in Kerala will soon have special clinics to treat people suffering from depression.
Such clinics would be opened in 170 primary health centres, which are being converted as family health centres under the Comprehensive Primary Health Care programme.
She said the aim of the initiative is to nurture a healthy generation without depression.
"Special clinics for treating persons suffering from depression will be opened in all government hospitals. It will be started in 170 primary health centres soon," Shylaja said speaking after inaugurating 'Prashanthi', one of such clinics opened at the Government Medical College here.
Health Department sources here said staff nurses and health workers attached to the PHCs would be given training in basic psycho-social counselling.
