IVF a boon for women with PCOS, says Maharashtra Health Minister
PCOS, is a common problem found among women of reproductive age and can cause problems with a women`s menstrual cycle, fertility, cardiac function and appearance as well.
New Delhi: With in-vitro fertilization gaining popularity as a means to conceive a baby, more and more couples are resorting to the procedure.
IVF is the process of manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish, and then transferring the embryo to the uterus.
Talking about IVF on Tuesday, Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant said that the procedure and related treatments are emerging as a boon for women suffering from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome(PCOS), a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.
"In current times, due to change in lifestyle, fast-living and majorly due to PCOS, pregnancy problems are becoming common among couples," said Sawant at the inauguration of an IVF centre by the Indira IVF.
"IVF treatment is a boon to overcome this rampant issue of today's society. There is a need for more centres providing IVF facilities to come up across the country."

According to AIIMS, India currently reports 10 percent of the world's PCOS cases.
PCOS symptoms vary from women to women thus making its diagnosis delayed or confusing.
Urging the need for more awareness on the issue, Sawant said both government and private entities should have more educational programmes.
