New Delhi: Arthritis is a painful medical condition in the form of inflammation of joints which leads to severe pain, swelling and stiffness. It is mainly common among women than men.

There are various types of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, spinal disorders. This medical condition is mainly caused by the common dietary mistakes that gives a harmful effect on our bones. But one can reduce the risk of developing arthritis, if we make certain changes in our lifestyle.

Here are some simple tips you can follow to keep your bones healthy:

Consume less salt

Consuming too much salt in food causes us to lose calcium through urine to release extra salt and can also lead to weak bones or Osteoporosis in the long run. In order to avoid this painful medical condition, one should consume less salt in their diet.

Say no to fizzy drinks

Replace soda and other fizzy drinks with healthy juices as they can be more damaging when consumed during the peak bone-building years of childhood and adolescence. Excessive soda consumption also lowers magnesium levels that are needed for bone health.

Reduce coffee intake

Drinking too much coffee is bad for bones as it decreases the calcium absorption and increases calcium loss.

Avoid alcohol

Reduce the consumption of alcohol as it affects the liver thereby affecting the function of vitamin D, the bone vitamin, thus causing weak bones.

Eat less chocolate

Consuming too much of chocolates can harm our bone health as contains oxalate, an inhibitor of calcium absorption, and sugar, which is linked to calcium excretion. So, have Chocolate in moderation.
