Without a doubt, the biggest problem area when it comes to weight is the belly, which most people resolve to reduce by way of diets and exercise.

The possibility of slow metabolism being an obstacle in your weight loss journey is high, however, there are other things that are in your control and you're probably not doing it in the right way and one of them is breathing correctly.

Surprised? According to an expert, your breathing technique could probably be the reason for your struggle to lose weight.

As per a report in the Daily Mail, Patrick McKeown, who coaches Olympic athletes said several studies have proven that breathing through your nose helps increase your metabolism which aids you in shedding those kilos.

He further emphasises how mouth-breathing prevents one from getting a sound sleep. It is also associated with many health issues like stress, obesity and sleep apnea.

Inhaling and exhaling through the mouth causes people to stay awake due to lack of oxygen.

"Breathing through your mouth leads to lower quality sleep. Many studies have shown that poor sleep is linked to increased appetite and a higher chance of obesity," McKeown told the Daily Mail.

Adding, "It's also associated with a higher risk of a range of health issues including higher blood pressure, poor cardiovascular health and even dementia."

Breathing through the nose, however, increases oxygen supply which helps improve the quality of sleep.

McKeown suggests training yourself to breath properly which will also keep “hunger-suppressing hormones in balance".
